According to my plan for the final outcomes, my second piece is about the difference between the Western World and the Eastern World. I intend to explore the cultural context behind the metal and the wood. The image on the right is my inspiration. In sociology, the East–West dichotomy is the perceived difference between the Eastern and the Western worlds. Cultural and religious rather than geographical in division, the boundaries of East and West are not fixed, but vary according to the criteria adopted by individuals using the term. I plan to ironically title this work as 'vertical equator' to discuss about the division of culture.

The image on the left is the globe I planned to buy on Amazon. I selected it because it's made by cork wood. In order to make it into a bracelet, I need to hollow it out. However, when I was reflecting on this idea, I realized that this globe is too complete. It leaves nearly no space for my design. The outcome might just look like I'm wearing a globe. Therefore, I started to think about new ideas. The image on the right gave me inspiration. It's one of Gijs Bakker's works, which conveys a sense of collision and division.

Nevertheless, in the end, I decide to abandon this direction. It's not because I cannot think of a new design idea or cannot realize some ideas. The reason is that I found that I was deviated from my theme. I realized it until this stage. I know this direction is still related with the context of these two materials. However, the focus is not totally about the material matter. That's why I decide to abandon the idea to discuss the cultural difference between West and East.
